BYD’s DM technology has experienced four generations of development, and now it has officially entered the era of DM 5.0. In the fifth generation of DM technology, BYD has finally achieved a power loss and fuel consumption of 2.9L, officially entered the "2" era, and its comprehensive battery life has also reached 2000+km.?
The main body of the fifth-generation DM technology is still based on the fourth-generation DM(DM-i), and the parts are fully upgraded to achieve a breakthrough in overall performance. On the engine level, the fifth-generation DM matches the 1.5L engine (BYD472QC), and its thermal efficiency reaches 46.06%, and its comprehensive power and torque are 74 kW/126 N.m..
Among them, several technical upgrades and polishing at the engine parts level include but are not limited to:
- The design of high tumble air passage improves the mixed gas and accelerates the combustion;
- High-energy ignition reduces ignition delay and ensures combustion stability;
- The electronic fuel injection system can intelligently calculate the optimal fuel injection time, control the fuel injection quantity to enter the trachea for atomization as needed, realize the optimal EGR rate and optimal combustion, and further improve the engine efficiency;
- Take EGR before urging, improve pressure difference, improve gas flammability and improve combustion capacity;
- Intelligent split cooling technology, the cylinder head and cylinder body are cooled separately, and the cooling capacity can be adjusted intelligently as needed, which is efficient and energy-saving;
- Intelligent variable lubrication system, accurately adjust the oil supply as needed, quickly cool down and improve efficiency;
In terms of motor configuration and gearbox, the fifth-generation DM still uses the E-CVT stepless gearbox, and adopts P1+P3 motor layout. The driving motor has two sets of parameters, namely 120kW, 210N.m/160kW and 260 N.m..
The advantage of adopting single-drive motor is to save energy consumption while ensuring inductance, and cooperate with the engine that focuses on fuel economy. For a more detailed article about DM 5.0, please refer to the article, so I won’t go into details here.
The representative models of DM 5.0 are Wang Chaowang’s "L" series models, such as Qin L and Song L DM-i, and Haiyang.com is also simultaneously launching corresponding DM 5.0 products, such as Qin PLUS’s sister model 06DM-I. Next, BYD’s subsequent products for the mainstream home market will be equipped with DM 5.0 technology.

DM-p is a branch of DM technology, which tends to pursue performance while giving consideration to energy saving. Previously, the original Han DM used a 2.0T engine, which actually meant something like "making a big brick fly". In 2022, BYD officially established the performance path of DM-DM-P, where P means "powerful".
DM-p is matched with 1.5T engine (BYD476ZQC), which has more turbocharging and higher power and torque than BYD472ZQC, which is 102kW/231N.m;; However, the thermal efficiency did not keep up with the level of DM 5.0 engine, which was 40.12%.
DM-p is also a matching E-CVT stepless gearbox, but the difference is that a P4 motor is added to the motor configuration of DM 5.0 P1+P3 to form a dual-drive motor.
The motor parameters of DM-p P3+P4 are 160kW, 325N.m+200kW and 350 N.M. With the support of dual motors, the vehicle equipped with DM-p can accelerate by 3/4 seconds per 100 kilometers. The performance is there, but the fuel consumption is definitely not as good as the extremely energy-saving DM 5.0. Taking Tang DM-p as an example, the official claims that its fuel consumption is 6.5L/100km when it is fed, but compared with the fuel vehicles of the same class, it is still a blow to reduce the dimension.
At present, the representative models of DM-p are Han DM-p/ Tang DM-p, and BYD is expected to develop a new generation of DM-p system based on DM 5.0, which is more balanced in energy consumption and performance.
DM-o is the exclusive hard-core off-road hybrid platform developed by BYD for Equation Leopard brand at present, which balances the fuel consumption advantages of DM-i and the performance advantages of DM-p at the hybrid level, and is more suitable for building a new generation of hard-core off-road with both performance and energy consumption.
The technical route is still P1+P3/ four-wheel-drive vehicle P1+P3+P4, and at the same time, the parallel axis layout is changed to coaxial layout, and the engine of the DM-O platform is vertical layout, which can adapt to the current 1.5T (BYD476ZQF)/2.0T (BYD487ZQD) engines of Di Factory, and the engine power parameters are 1.5t-143kW/270t respectively.
As for the motor parameters, the motor parameters of DM-o 1.5T-P3+P4 are 200kW, 360N.m+285kW and 400N.m, and the motor parameters of 2.0T-P3+P4 are 200kW, 360N.m+300kW and 400 N.m..
The representative models of DM-o are Equation Leopard 5 and Leopard 8, and the future Leopard series is expected to withdraw from more models based on DM-o platform.
Short comments:BYD’s current hybrid technology route covers three paths: energy saving, performance and off-road. Among them, DM 5.0 is fully optimized on the basis of DM 4.0, with more extreme fuel economy and inductance.
The DM-p technology has not been updated, but the current path of 1.5T engine+dual motors can also balance energy consumption and performance, while the DM-o with vertical layout covers 1.5T and 2.0T engines, and the whole platform layout is more in line with the hardcore needs of off-road users.
At present, Chery’s main hybrid route is the third-generation hybrid system Kunpeng Super Performance Electric Hybrid C-DM, and the matching engine is the fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5TGDI high-efficiency hybrid engine (SQRH4J15), with the highest thermal efficiency of 44.5% and the power and torque parameters of 115 kW/220 N.m..
On this basis, C-DM has two gearboxes to match it, one is a three-speed super electric hybrid DHT, and the other is a stepless super electric hybrid single-speed DHT. Among them, the motor configuration of the three-speed DHT is P2+P2.5, and a P4 motor is added to the four-wheel drive version. The configuration of single-gear DHT is P1+P3.
The motor parameters of three-speed DHT and P2+P2.5 are 150kW and 310N.m The representative models are Tiggo 8 PLUS, i-DM, etc., which are basically household-grade SUVs.
The motor parameters of single-gear DHT and P1+P3 are also 150kW and 310N.m, but the sense of body and energy consumption experience will be more energy-saving and smooth, and the representative models are Fengyun A8, Fengyun T9 and Exploration 06 C-DM.
The motor parameters of the third gear DHT, P2+P2.5+P4 are 165kW, 390N.m+175kW and 310N.m, and the representative models are Jietu Shanhai T2 four-wheel drive, Eta Ursae Majoris C-DM four-wheel drive, Fengyun T10, etc. This set is more performance-oriented, for example, it can achieve a speed of 4.26s on the C-DM, so it is more suitable for Chery’s large cars.
In addition, Chery is currently exploring another technical route of hybrid-extended range market. The first water test vehicle is Xingtu New Era ET, which is matched with a 1.5T engine (SQRH4J15B), with power and torque parameters of 115kW/220N.m and thermal efficiency of 44.5%.
The extended range version of Star Era ET adopts single-speed gearbox and rear single motor layout, with motor parameters of 195kW and 324N.m.
Short comments:Chery, known as the "technical house", has divided several sets of technical routes for plug-in and hybrid, but at present, the mainstream is a set of 1.5T engine matching two sets of DHT gearboxes and three motor layouts. Single-gear and three-gear DHT cover entry-level and three-gear DHT+ dual motors are geared to the higher-end 200,000-class market. In addition, the extended-range version of Star Age ET is also a sniff of Chery in the extended-range hybrid market.
Geely Group has been streamlining and integrating its brand recently, and its technical route has basically been clarified.
In the hybrid field, at present, EM-P focuses on "energy saving and better performance", which gives users stronger power and performance while taking into account energy consumption. Using three-speed DHT can bring users a stronger performance explosion.
EM-i focuses on "extreme energy saving", aiming at BYD DM-5.0. At present, EM-P is basically mounted on the Lectra brand models, and more EM-I energy-saving models have also been declared.

Among them, the engine BHE15 is mostly used in most models of Lectra, while the 2.0T engine is currently only installed on the new Lectra 09EM-P.

EM-P is matched with a three-speed DHT gearbox, which also has two configurations: P1+P3 (two-wheel drive) /P1+P3+P4 (four-wheel drive).
Among them, the motor parameters of P1+P3 (two-wheel drive) are 160kW and 350N.m, and the representative models are: Lingke 06, Lingke 07 and Lingke 08 (two-wheel drive version).
The motor parameters of 2.0T/P1+P3+P4 (four-wheel drive) are 100kW, 320N.m+156kW, and 309 N.M. At present, only one model is equipped with the Lectra 09EM-P..
The motor parameters of 1.5T/P1+P3+P4 (four-wheel drive) are 160kW, 350N.m+156kW and 290N.m, which means that the representative model has the Lexus 08 four-wheel drive version.
Mixed form: intermixing
Matching engine -1.5T engine (BHE15-BFN), the thermal efficiency can reach 46.5%, and the power and torque parameters are 82kW/136N.m respectively. Matching single-gear DHT gearbox, the click configuration is P1+P3 like DM 5.0, and the power and torque parameters of the motor are 160kW and 262N.m.
